Pre-pointe Assessment

A pre-pointe assessment will indicate when a dancer’s body is ready to begin pointe work. Beginning pointe work before one’s body is ready can lead to injuries later on in a dancer’s career, so care is required in the younger years to build up strength.

In the assessment flexibility, strength, turn out and core strength are all tested and any weaknesses will be identified. Steph will prescribe specific, individualised exercises for you to improve strength where you need it most, so you are ready to begin pointe work sooner.

All assessments will be followed up with a full report so that the dancer, the dance teacher, parents and health professionals are all on the same page regarding the dancer’s progress.

Pre Pointe assessments take up to 45 minutes at a cost of $85. Private Health Fund rebates apply.

Appointments with Steph are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Steph has had extensive training in classical ballet and has previously taught ballet for younger students. Steph uses her skills now to treat dancers and conduct pre pointe assessments. She understands the demands of dancing and pointe work both as a dancer and as a health professional.
